As one of the world’s largest and most advanced vessels, Cadeler’s Wind Peak wind turbine installation vessel is leading the installation of 100 Siemens Gamesa turbines at the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm. With a significant payload exceeding 17,600 tonnes and a main crane capacity of over 2,600 tonnes, the installation of its complex traverse system demands absolute precision, focus, and confidence.
Rapid Mobilisation & Global Project Expertise
CASC was engaged to resolve critical installation challenges affecting Wind Peak’s traverse system, bringing deep technical expertise and a proven track record across 60+ global offshore wind projects.
Facing a tight schedule, the team worked relentlessly around the clock, operating 49 metres above sea level to unpick and rectify the assembly. Through a structured, solution-driven approach, CASC:
Identified and resolved complex installation faults
Reassembled and installed the traverse system to exact specifications
Maintained strict adherence to safety and quality standards
Ensured zero disruption to the wider project schedule
Driving Efficiency in Offshore Wind
Traverse systems are essential for the controlled, accurate positioning of heavy turbine components during installation. Any misalignment or fault can significantly impact project timelines and operational safety.
CASC’s ability to rapidly assess and resolve these challenges highlights the importance of an agile, experience-led team in time-critical offshore environments.
Supporting the World’s Largest Offshore Wind Projects
Once completed, the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm will generate 1.4 GW of renewable energy, enough to power approximately 1.2 million UK homes. Projects of this scale are critical to achieving the UK’s net-zero targets and accelerating the transition to clean energy.
By ensuring the successful installation of Wind Peak’s traverse system, CASC played a key role in supporting one of the world’s most significant offshore wind developments.
