Powering Hornsea 3: Leading the Quayside Mobilisation of the World’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm

Date Posted:
Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm represents a landmark milestone in the energy industry. Once fully operational, it will generate an incredible 2.9 GW of power, making it the world’s single largest offshore wind farm and supplying green energy to over 3.3 million UK homes.
Supporting a project of this magnitude requires robust quayside logistics as well as specialised electrical design and setup. Operating across the Port of Hull and Able Seaton Port, our Renewables team delivered critical quayside infrastructure to keep this industry-leading project moving forward.
Here is a closer look at how our engineering, electrical and operational solutions played a critical role in the delivery of Hornsea 3.
Heavy Engineering & Critical Path Infrastructure
Efficiency at the quayside is paramount to successful offshore installation. Our teams executed critical path installations to ensure seamlessly coordinated operations across both ports:
Critical Path Infrastructure: Built and commissioned key structural apparatus on-site, including Trojan Horse units and Bolt Stands.
Mechanical Works: Completed full quayside tower frame installations alongside essential civil works.
Heavy Lift Operations: Successfully managed heavy lift deployments to handle massive wind turbine components safely and precisely.
Custom Electrical Design & Installation
Powering large-scale offshore pre-assembly sites demands specialised, reliable electrical infrastructure tailored to unique project requirements:
Nacelle Storage Power Panels: Designed and installed custom electrical distribution panels specifically engineered to power nacelle storage areas.
Bespoke Rental Equipment: Designed and deployed high-capacity temporary power solutions, including critical distribution cabling boards, step-up transformers, and temporary CASC power containers to keep quayside operations running continuously.
A Global Reputation for On-Time Delivery
By streamlining civil, mechanical, and electrical operations across both ports, we delivered the project 2 days early, fully installing the critical path infrastructure ahead of target. Since 2016, we’ve worked on 65+ offshore wind projects worldwide, upholding a global reputation for agility, problem-solving, and on-time execution.
CASC Renewables is proud to play a core role in building the critical infrastructure to support Hornsea 3, accelerating the UK's transition toward a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
