From Concept to Manufacture: Custom Trolleys for Barbour Engineering

As one of our trusted partners, we work closely with Barbour Engineering on a variety of projects. Barbour recently approached us to manufacture 45 bespoke trolleys for their client in the aviation industry, intended for the secure transportation of aircraft production aids.
Led by our in-house Design for Manufacture (DFM) team, we suggested alterations to their original design to incorporate slotting and tabbing. This process ensures parts fit together neatly and accurately before welding. Our DFM team also optimised material usage by adding bend connections to joining lengths of material, resulting in reduced weld time and improved assembly stiffness, driving even greater manufacturing efficiency. With every customer project, our design team tries to minimise excess fabrication and manual assembly methods. Through slotting and tabbing, assembly became seamless, delivering a more consistent, high-quality end product for their client.
Our fully automated TRUMPF TruLaser Tube 7000 processed the complete component set for this design, using high precision to cut every part from raw tube in a single step. This tube laser technology executes 3D bevel cutting and profiling to trim tube ends at exact angles, while laser-piercing slots and tabs create self-locking alignment joints across nodes and base rails. By combining these processes on a single machine, the parts simply snap together like a 3D puzzle, eliminating manual layout, angle-finding, and drilling before final welding.
Colin Heron, Barbour Engineering, said, “Working with CASC Engineering has been a seamless experience from start to finish. Stuart and Stevie go above and beyond. Thanks to their consistent communication and reliability, our project was executed to the highest standards.”
